Who is Michael Buchanan?
Michael Buchanan is a guitarist with more than 30 years of experience performing with bands, contemporary worship teams, and songwriters. Known for a distinctive guitar voice shaped by influences ranging from blues rock, outlaw country, and 1990s alternative rock to melodic Scandinavian metal, his tasteful, versatile playing and strong improvisational skills consistently serve the song, delivering exactly the right parts to bring the music to life. Michael values timeless musical craftsmanship over short-lived trends, focusing on creating guitar parts that remain effective and memorable long after the latest musical fashions have passed.
Originally from North Alabama, just east of the Muscle Shoals region, Michael has spent more than three decades developing his craft as a guitarist. After stepping away from active performance for several years to focus on family and other professional responsibilities, he returned to music with a renewed appreciation for disciplined practice, collaboration, and the enduring power of great songs.
Michael is experienced with using the Nashville Number System along with other current practices, such as in-ear monitoring, silent/quiet stages, playing along with clicks and backing tracks, and real-time direction from a bandleader. He has a comfortable familiarity with a wide range of backline equipment, and is able to quickly dial in a sound that’s appropriate to any setting.
Michael is currently interested in opportunities involving contemporary worship, original music, recording projects, and collaborative performance environments.
